4 Secrets Jairam Ramesh’s Signature Reveals About Him

Jairam Ramesh

Jairam Ramesh

A senior editor in my previous newspaper office had chuckled when it was announced after the 2009 General Elections that Jairam Ramesh would be the Environment Minister.

“The government has found a way to keep his mouth shut,” the editor had said.

It’s been two years now, and it hardly needs to be evaluated whether the editor was right or not. We have seen that Ramesh, despite being in a wallflower ministry, has managed to stay in the news—all because of his mouth, which, we all agree, is far from being shut.

And unlike other politicians, he has been in the limelight for all right reasons, until this one came on May 23, 2011:

“There is hardly any worthwhile research from our IITs (Indian Institute of Technology). The faculty in the IIT is not world-class. It is the students in IITs who are world-class. So the IITs and IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) are excellent because of the quality of students not because of quality of research or faculty.”

I thought the minister, an ex-IITian himself, probably knew what he was talking about and might be fair in his remarks, to some extent.

But I was wrong. With the growing criticism and mounting pressure, the minister went on the back foot on May 28, and was suddenly filled with immense love for his alma mater.

I then decided to check his signature to see whether Jairam Ramesh deserved the Foot in Mouth Award.

Signature of Jairam Ramesh

We have his signature. It’s one of the most exquisite signatures I have ever seen. Almost everything about this is perfect and symmetrical.

Let’s examine it more closely.

#1. Loves to express

The slight tilt the letters towards the right in his signature indicates that Jairam Ramesh loves to express. He cannot just sit and keep quiet. He will speak his mind without any hesitation. If he feels strongly about something, he will say it.

The connection between his letters says that he can be convinced only through powerful arguments and reasoning.

#2. Faith in himself

The overall size of the signature in general and first letter in particular reflects that the minister thinks very highly of himself and is proud of what he stands for, what he says, what he does, and what he does not do.

He is a very confident man, and it’s difficult to make him feel otherwise in public. And this trait is supported by the underline below his signature and the long, heavy and unwavering stroke over ‘J’.

#3. Problem solver

The pointed tops in the letter m indicate that Ramesh is a fast thinker and is someone whose forte is solving problems. And his favourite exercise is jumping to conclusion without verifying facts (i-dot far to the right).

Often he is found to be in a hurry and few things irritate him as much as a slow talker. He loves speed.

#4. Foot-in-mouth award?

Now, it’s time to answer whether the respected minister deserves the Foot in Mouth Award. Yes, he does. Enlarge the signature sample and look at the three a’s.

All three are clean, which suggests that Jairam Ramesh does not have a forked tongue. However, they are open at the top. This shows that the man talks more than he should. Hence, he is an ideal candidate for the award.
