Q&A with Chetna Teckchandani
Handwriting analysis has many benefits and you can even use it to attract the right kind of people and situations in your life, says Chetna Teckchandani, a Mumbai-based handwriting analyst. In an interview with Vishwas Ved, she says that before changing anything in your handwriting or signature, you must fully understand its implications and pros and cons. Edited excerpts:
At such a young age, you have achieved a lot as a handwriting analyst. Please tell us about your journey as a graphologist. How long have you been a handwriting expert?
Thanks for making me feel young. The journey has been quite exciting. I come from the marketing management background, along with a degree in early-childhood care and education. From there, I hopped onto classroom management. And I must say, managing a classroom full of bundled energies was much too challenging.
In 2010, I came across graphology. It caught my attention and I went ahead and did a certification course in it. Little did I know then that few years down the line, I will aim make a career out of it.
My journey as a graphologist won’t have been possible without the vision and conviction of Dharmendra Rai, Mumbai’s first mind-map trainer. I met him in March 2016 at his seminar on how to become a successful trainer. Under his mentorship, I explored the hugely untapped market for mental well-being, which can be attained using a scientific tool called handwriting analysis.
I have been a practising handwriting analyst since 2016. Thanks to my diverse background, I am able to understand the influence of early years in the development of a personality, and establish its connection with handwriting.
Tell us something about your handwriting teachers…
My base in this subject came from my teacher, Milind Rajore. He is one of the best handwriting analysis teachers in India. His workshops were helpful in giving a deeper insights into the human subconscious mind.
Another person who had a huge influence on me is Naviin Thantri, a graphologist and founder of Global institute of Alternate Sciences. I was fascinated by his unique and logical approach to graphology. Integration of various alternate sciences is his forte. He not only taught me graphotherapy, but also helped me understand how to design custom solutions for clients with health and relationship problems.
What’s the profile of your clients? Are there more individuals or only corporate houses or both?
Both. My individual are from various walks of life – professionals, entrepreneurs, teachers, creative artists and students.
Some of my recent corporate clients were HDFC Life, IIFL, Galaxy Office Automation, and their main aim is to help their employees be in a good mental health to ensure high productivity.
What’s the common thing you find in the people whose handwriting samples you analyse?
Though each one of us are unique and choose to respond to situations differently, one does find a commonality in certain aspects. The need for being understood is one of them. Also, during my various interactions, I have found many people wearing a mask to hide their insecurities or hiding behind layers of behavioural complexities just to fit in. But along the way, they forget that these defence mechanisms are just an act, and they are gradually becoming solely dependent on them. I have also seen that a lot of people are too critical of themselves without any reason.
What about youngsters? Do they come to you? Any interesting case you can recount for us?
Youngsters surprisingly show a lot of interest in graphology mainly for its novelty factor. At times, it’s also because they are in some kind of a personal mess and they want to come out of it.
I recently met this 18-year-old guy who always found it difficult to strike a conversation. His handwriting size was small. I helped him open up by designing a new signature for him.
Handwriting analysis has such a deep connection with personality. In what ways can we use it to better our lives?
You can use it to attract the right kind of people and situations in your life. The world around you remains the same but when you change your outlook, the world around you behaves differently.
Handwriting analysis can help you undo the layering that stops you from accepting your closed ones for who they are. Begin with your parents, spouse, children and friends. Life is generally enjoyed from the purview of relationships. When that is your point of focus, everything else starts to make sense.
How about a signature change? How does it work?
If you want a visible change, start by changing your signature. Mind you, that is not usually the starting point as you got to do the base work of changing and preparing your mind for a fundamental shift. I changed mine when the time was right, knowing fully the pros and cons of the desired outcome. Now, I can see the change I wanted to bring in me. (Check out: Signature Analysis)
Do you recommend graphotherapy to your clients?
Yes, of course. It’s my blood and fuel. You can reach only up to a certain point with the analysis, no matter how dexterous you may be with your analytical skills. At the end, you need to solve the problem at hand. Graphotherapy does just that. It is like a bitter pill that you sugar-coat with counselling, NLP and other modalities. So, graphotherapy is the base of bringing changes in your health, career, and relationships. It is my main form of practice with health in focus.
To what extent can altering one’s handwriting help in improving our personality or circumstances?
So much so that you no more recognise the old you. All you have is a fine memory of your past self.
Can a person’s handwriting reveal anything about his health or gender?
Health – it is shouting its lungs out. Health is most certainly seen. Astonishingly, even before an illness hits the body, the mind captures it, and it starts showing in your handwriting. No, the handwriting cannot reveal the gender.
How popular is handwriting analysis in India? Do you think enough is being done to promote handwriting analysis in our country?
It is gaining popularity, thanks to a paradigm shift in the way the society perceives mental health. However, a lot still needs to be done to promote and propagate its study.
A lot of young people are attracted to handwriting analysis with an aim to turn it into a livelihood. Any advice for them?
I’d say you’re welcome, but keep in mind that it will be a roller-coaster ride because there is no organised industry or market waiting for you. You have to build you own path. If you do it smartly with some research and study, then sky is the limit.
Tell us about your life beyond handwriting analysis. What do you do when you are not analysing a handwriting sample. Any hobbies?
When I am not analysing the strokes in the writing, I am reading. I like books ranging from romantic novels to behavioural science to autobiographies. I love playing with young minds and cats. Aimless conversations with meaningful friends to day-dreaming. Of late, I am working on overcoming my fear of huge dogs.
Any handwriting tips to give that everyone can follow?
Write like a daily practice that itself lubricates your brain muscles. Let the juices of your mind pour out. It will give your mind the much-needed exercise. There should be no cutting stroke in your signature whatsoever. Sooner or later you will see its ill effects transferring from emotional problems to bodily problems. If you see heavy ink blots in your handwriting or visibly variable pressure, that could be an early indication of poor health. So, go visit an expert for a thorough check-up.
